It was published in the journal Cell Metabolism and claims that some foods, widely presented as useful, will in some cases do more harm than good to your health.
In the experiments, the scientists gave fruit juices and nectars to laboratory mice on an empty stomach. After a while, they checked how this diet affected the health of their stomachs and intestines.
It turned out that when using fruit juice on an empty stomach, the small intestine fails to synthesize fructose in the fruit. As a result, it enters directly into the colon and there causes serious damage to the microflora.
The microorganisms in the colon fail to deal with fruit sugars, and thus many of the beneficial bacteria in the gut die.
The scientists add that these negative consequences occur both when drinking freshly squeezed fruit juices and packaged ones, because their content is 90% fruit sugars.
The recommendation is fruit juices to drink only after eating food, because this will prevent the load on the digestive system and the intestinal microflora will not suffer.
