The prices of tomatoes we buy this summer are 40 percent higher than last year. This is shown by the data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
According to the analyzes, while in the summer of 2015 a kilogram of tomatoes was traded in Bulgaria at an average price of BGN 0.91, now it will be difficult to find them at values lower than BGN 1.25.
Wholesale prices per kilogram of tomatoes are about 2 levs for red tomatoes and about 3 levs per kilogram of pink tomatoes.
A study by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food has shown that cherries are coming out saltier this year. The price per kilogram of fruit has jumped by nearly 53%, and prices have not fallen in the middle of summer.
A kilo of cherries is traded in bulk for BGN 2.53, and for comparison last year the ceiling on stock market prices reached BGN 1.64. Producers attribute this difference to a lower harvest due to the May rains.
Bad weather this spring has also raised peach prices. On the wholesale exchanges, the fruits have jumped by 12% compared to their prices since the summer of 2015. A kilogram of peaches is sold wholesale for BGN 1.31, while last year this quantity was offered for BGN 1.17.
At the same time, the line ministry reports higher exports of home-grown vegetables. For the period from January to April 2016, about 8.8 tons of fresh vegetables were exported from our country, which is an increase of 37.8% compared to last year.
The largest exports are reported in carrots, which has increased 3 times. Next are peppers, whose exports jumped by 40%. On the other hand, the export of potatoes and onions is shrinking, with the most serious decrease reported in potatoes - 94%.
Most of the fruits were imported to our markets, and for the last year their quantity has increased by 4.9% or 83.5 thousand tons.
