Glass of wine will help you live longer. You don't believe it? New research says just that - drinking wine is more important than exercise and can help us live to be 100 years old. Yes, it is true that no one plans to live forever, but most of us would like to live as long as possible. And scientists are constantly trying to discover the secret of longevity. A study called Study 90+ is trying to understand why longevity lives so long.
The researchers used data from a 1981 study called The Leisure World Cohort Study (LWCS), which involved 14,000 participants. The team of experts is trying to answer several questions to determine the factors associated with longer life and the variable risk factors for dementia and mortality, and to study the epidemiology of dementia. Participants performed neurological and neurophysiological tests twice a year, and information about their medical history, diet, activities, medications, and lifestyle was carefully collected by the researchers.
Among other findings, the researchers found that those who drank in moderation, live longer from the rest. According to the researchers, people who consumed one to two glasses of beer, wine or alcohol a day had a 9-15% lower risk of death than those who abstained from alcohol. However, keep in mind that the key is moderation.
Dr Jim Becker, Professor of Psychiatry, Neurology and Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Director of the Center for Alzheimer's Disease Research, emphasizes the importance of moderation: and red wines in particular are associated with certain positive health outcomes. But that doesn't mean that if you suddenly decide to start drinking at age 70, it will have the same effect.
Dr. Stephen Lam, MD, clinical professor of medicine and medical director of the Tisch Men's Health Center at New York University in Langan, adds: Alcohol is known to damage every organ in the body. This is poison. However, there is a paradox in the fact that a moderate amount of alcohol reduces the risk of heart disease.
The Mayo Clinic recommends one drink for people over the age of 65 and two drinks for men younger than that age. Studies show that moderate wine consumption reduces the risk of diabetes, ischemic stroke and death from heart disease. So do not hesitate to enjoy glass of wine or beer with your lunch or dinner, but never overdo it. Excessive consumption can lead to serious health problems and an increased risk of death from all causes.
