Giant strawberries were produced by Japanese farmers in the northern province of Niagata. Each of the huge fruits weighs no less than 60 grams and is difficult to fit in a person's hand, writes the British newspaper Telegraph.

As expected, the unusual production immediately came to the attention of experienced businessmen on the Asian island and the company Ichigo Co., engaged in the trade of agricultural goods, bought almost the entire harvest of Japanese farmers.

The fruits, which are about the size of a small chocolate or ultra-fine smartphone, are currently sold only on the Internet. The price of one strawberry is 1000 yen / 8 dollars /, but you can only buy a whole box of six strawberries.

Earlier this year, the world press had another reason to talk about the Japanese giant strawberries. Then the 32-year-old British record for the largest representative of the delicious fruit was broken.

The Japanese producer Koji Nakao, also from Niagata province, managed to grow a strawberry weighing 250 grams, 8 cm high, 12 cm thick and 30 cm in circumference.

The red fruit was of the Amaou variety. An examination by Guinness World Records experts at the time showed that the record holder was formed by the merging of several individual fruits, forming a giant strawberry.

Despite its abnormal size and unusual appearance, the strawberry has retained its taste. Nakao's daughter, who tasted it first, said the fruit tasted great.

The Government of Japan provides special subsidies to producers of Amaou strawberries in Niagata Province.

The aim is to make the fruits produced there a recognizable brand on world markets and to provide a livelihood for the local population.

The initiative is currently successful, because in recent years in the land of the rising sun it has become fashionable to give specially packaged giant fruits for birthdays, weddings and baptisms.

The offered fruits are specially improved and their price sometimes reaches 50 thousand yen or 3240 dollars for fruit.
