For reference - until 2 weeks ago the same amount of our favorite anti-flu food could be found for at least BGN 3, and the more expensive garlic reached BGN 5-6 per kilogram. A short walk to the Dimitar Petkov market in the capital allowed us to see that such prices of Bulgarian garlic there is not anymore.

Despite the promises of the Government that in the quarantine period of COVID-19 speculation on basic food prices will not be allowed, such is already a fact.

And although in the conditions of a market economy the State has no legal levers with the help of which to regulate a sharp rise in price of one or another commodity, the promise from the Crisis Staff of the country should be kept.

Rising by more than 50% of the price per kilogram of garlic is a looting approach by traders who increase the price due to the jump in demand for healthy food. This act is associated with the misconception that a natural antibiotic can protect us from the coronavirus.

In recent weeks, the internet has been flooded with information that garlic is a food against COVID-19. Of course, such a statement has no scientific basis.

Rather, it is true that garlic is a healthy food that can help us for better immunity. In fact, as a fighter against colds and viruses, garlic has been popular since time immemorial. This is due to its composition, which is rich in useful vitamins and minerals, oils and amino acids.

Allicin, one of the most important ingredients in garlic, is an organic compound that kills bacteria and fungi. To get the most out of its effect, consume only garlic that has been crushed or pressed.
