The consumption of beer in our country has increased in the last 5 years, as Bulgarians have drank an average of 72 liters of beer. With these values, we are ahead of beer consumption in the UK.
But we are still far from the leaders in the ranking - the Czechs, who drink an average of 144 liters of beer a year, says Ivana Radomirova, executive director of the Union of Brewers.
In second place are the Germans, who drink 107 liters of beer per calendar year.
Recent data show that Bulgarians buy more beer and their consumption of beer ranks them in countries such as Belgium and the Netherlands.
For the last 5 years they have drank the most beer in Ruse - 13 times a week. Then come Montana with 11 times a week, Pleven and Burgas - with 10 times a week.
In Bulgaria, men drink more beer than women, pouring themselves 12 times a week, while women do not afford more than 5 times a week beer.
Radomirova also commented that lately unpasteurized or unfiltered beer is gaining more and more popularity, which refers to the memories of the past.
Capital investments in the brewing industry in our country have also increased over the last 5 years. According to the Brewers' Union, investments have jumped by BGN 315 million since 2011.
40 new brands of beer in different varieties and packages have appeared on the Bulgarian market.
Pierre-Oliver Bergeron, Secretary General of the Brewers of Europe, also attended the press conference on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Union of Brewers in Bulgaria, saying that the sector is already recovering from the severe financial crisis.
