A stung client told a 24 Chassa newspaper that a plate of chicken he bought for BGN 5.20 contained 120 grams of water. The water was poured into the plate itself, not into the meat.

Krassimir Minchev from Haskovo signals that the plates of meat are actually drilled with small holes that are full of water. This increases the weight of the product and, accordingly, its price.

"After I thawed the chicken I bought for BGN 5.20 per kilo, I found out that the package contained as much as 120 grams of water," the scalded customer said 24 hours ago.

Plastic trays were drilled in a special way to absorb more water during freezing. The frozen water on the scales was counted as part of the meat.

So far, however, it is not known whether the plate in question, which the customer bought from Haskovo, was poured with frozen water from the poultry farm or the meat was later packaged.

Some time ago, a large part of the consumer organizations in the country alerted consumers to be careful with the chilled meat they buy, as in most cases it turned out to be frozen meat with expired expiration date.

To give it a commercial look, store employees process the meat with marinade and spices, thus masking the fact that the meat is spoiled, smells bad and sticks.

Deep-frozen chickens, for example, have been processed and served chilled after their expiry date.

Observations show that most customers prefer to buy chilled meat instead of frozen meat, because they clearly see the tempting look of the chilled version as opposed to frozen meat, which is often covered with chunks of ice.

"Washing with water, rubbing with salt, soaking in the marinade to remove bad breath and stickiness, only seemingly help, but the already developed microorganisms in the meat remain," say food experts.

The Food Safety Agency advises that you inspect food carefully before you buy it.
