According to a new study red plates trigger a danger signal in the brain, which reduces the amount of food we eat. At the same time, white plates (which are also the most common) make food look tastier. This, of course, is not necessarily a bad thing. According to experts, desserts should be served in white plates. Because if you put a cake with less sugar in them, for example, you will still be able to enjoy it.

After a number of studies, we were able to prove that eating a red plate makes us eat less food. The red color triggers a danger signal in the brain. It makes us subconsciously give up and prepare for danger, says study author Dr. Charles Spence, a professor of experimental psychology at Oxford University.

The study involved 52 volunteers. Half of the participants had to eat a strawberry dessert from a white plate, and the rest ate red cake. The analysis of the data showed that those who ate white cake ate an average of 26% more.

All participants also had to rate the strawberry dessert on a scale of 1 to 10. The data showed that eating the dessert from a white plate made it 17% tastier for the people who consumed it. Also, 13% of them described it as more fragrant and as many as 35% as sweeter. Only 2% of those who ate in red plates described it as extremely tasty.
