It is very unpleasant when you have given a fairly large amount for fruits and vegetables, and after a day or two they have already rotted in places and you have to throw them away.

If you follow certain rules, vegetables and fruits can be stored longer. You should know that there is a gas called ethylene that is odorless and colorless. It helps some products to mature, but over time causes them to spoil.

In some fruits ethylene is in large quantities - for example in apples and pears, in others its amount is negligible. It can be used to ripen some green fruits faster. If you put an avocado or banana in a paper bag with two apples, you will have fully ripe fruit in the morning.

But if one fruit in the package spoils, the ethylene from it is released in an increased amount and this spoils all the other fruits. You need to be careful in what combinations you store fruits and vegetables.

Therefore, apples, apricots, melons, peaches and nectarines, pears and plums, figs and tomatoes should be stored separately.

Some fruits and vegetables are stored in the refrigerator, others can be stored outside. Do not wash fruits and vegetables before placing them in the refrigerator. And if you have washed them, dry them so that they do not mold.

The refrigerator stores artichokes, beets, Brussels sprouts, melons, celery, cherries, grapes, green beans, leafy vegetables, green onions, spinach, zucchini.

Ripe nectarines, peaches, pears, plums, kiwis, avocados are stored in the refrigerator. Asparagus and green spices such as parsley and dill are stored as flowers in a vase.

In a plastic bag in which you have made holes for ventilation, store in the refrigerator broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, corn, peas, radishes.

Do not wash strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blackcurrants and raisins before putting them in the refrigerator. Fruits should be stored separately from vegetables.

On the kitchen table you can store apples, bananas, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, grapefruit, lemons, limes, oranges, mangoes, papayas, peppers, pineapples, pomegranates.

But they should not be near the stove or under direct sunlight. Store onions, garlic, potatoes, leeks, pumpkin in a dark cool place.
