Autumn is always the season for pumpkins, so be sure to stock up on them. We will not surprise anyone if we mention that they are extremely tasty and useful and in addition to eating their meat, we also use the seeds, both for health problems and just for fun.
Here are some interesting facts about this orange magic:
- The freshest and well-ripened pumpkins can be found both in the yard and on the market in the months between August and November;
- In Peru and Mexico, people knew this fruit about 8,000 years ago, and after America was discovered, they reached Europe;
- In fact, the pumpkin is a type of berry, which is usually a small fruit, but here it can reach several hundred kilograms. There are about 800 species of pumpkins in different latitudes, but no more than 200 of them are edible;
- We are usually used to seeing orange and relatively round pumpkins, but in fact they can also be green, white, yellow, black, spotted or patterned, pear-shaped or oval;
- When buying a pumpkin, it is important to choose a heavy one with a stem, because those without a stalk usually spoil faster. If you knock on its bark and hear a hollow blow, then this is your fully ripe pumpkin - take it because you have hit the perfect moment for consumption;
- Pumpkins are made from over 90% water and at the same time are extremely rich in vitamins, beta carotene, magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, trace elements, phytosterols and linoleic acid. They are suitable for dietary nutrition because they contain only 20 calories per 100 grams. For cholesterol problems, you can include pumpkin oil in your daily diet. However, if you want to prepare such oil at home, you will need 35 pumpkins for 1 liter of oil;
- When preparing your Halloween party, use the inside for various desserts, and spray the pumpkin itself with vinegar on the inside and varnish the outside so it will last a few days without mold;
- Store the torn pumpkins in the dark and they will be edible for several weeks.
If you do not have your own home-made pumpkins, hurry to jump to the market while there are still fresh and nice ones.
