Comparative analyzes are starting to show whether products with the same brand in our country are of lower quality than Western Europe. The news was announced by Dr. Kamen Nikolov from the Food Control Directorate.
In the studio of Hello, Bulgaria, the expert announced that his colleagues have already left for Germany and Austria. From there they will bring 32 products and comparative analyzes will be conducted.
The results of the study, which is being conducted in two stages, will be announced at the end of June.
According to him, signals that second-quality food is being sold in Eastern Europe are coming from Croatia, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Research in these countries has shown that there is a discrepancy between the quality of certain products.
We have identified 5 groups of products - chocolate products, soft drinks, meat products, dairy products and baby food. We will monitor the water content, fats, fat content and others, says Dr. Nikolov.
The object of study will be some of the most popular brands both in our country and in Western Europe.
Earlier this year, the leaders of the Visegrad Four gathered in Warsaw, calling on the European Union to take more serious action against food producers.
They claim that foods with lower quality ingredients are offered in Eastern European countries. It is therefore necessary to take legislative measures to stop this practice.
Members of the Visegrad Four - the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia - say that such quality discrepancies occur because EU law only requires manufacturers to correctly describe the ingredients used on labels and product packaging to be the same.
