During an inspection, BFSA inspectors discovered an illegal potato frying facility. Nearly 4 tons of potatoes, 740 kilograms of blanks and 100 kilograms of ready-to-sell french fries were seized from the workshop.

The action was carried out jointly with the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency and the Sofia Directorate.

The production at the site was with fake labels and without the obligatory documents showing the origin of the products.

The regional directorate for food safety in Sofia will also check the other sites that are owned by the violator. The owner was sanctioned with a maximum administrative fine of BGN 2,000.

The products found in the warehouse were redirected for destruction.

Meanwhile, the BFSA continues with the intensified inspections of fruits and vegetables in the domestic markets. We will be looking for vegetables with pesticides and suspicious fruits and vegetables that were imported from Greece shortly after the lifting of the border blockade.

Pesticide inspections began on March 10th and will continue until May 13th, Anton Velichkov of the BFSA told Bulgarian National Radio.

There are assumptions that during this period it is possible for 5 products to enter our country, which are not subject to control from the border checkpoints. These are tomatoes, cucumbers, peaches, apricots and cherries, which are imported from third countries, the expert said.

The control at the border checkpoints of Kapitan Andreevo and Lesovo will be strengthened, where there are laboratories for inspection of fruits and vegetables.

Only after they give a sample material and receive negative results for pesticides, the trucks with imported greens will have the right to cross the Bulgarian border.

In the presence of pesticides, the shipment will be destroyed at the expense of importers, say the BFSA.
