Johnny Di Francesco, 36, who owns a pizzeria on the outskirts of Melbourne, won the competition for the most delicious Margarita at a traditional competition in Parma.

For the first time at the competition in Italy, the prize for the most delicious pizza did not go to an Italian who is known as the best masters in the preparation of various types of pasta and pizza.

Francesco managed to triumph in the competition despite fierce competition from 600 people from 35 countries around the world.

The Specialita Traditionale Garantita pizza competition is held every year in Parma, with the aim of honoring the best chefs who can prepare the most delicious pizza.

The Australian, who won this year's race, told CNN he did not expect to reach first place.

"It's amazing. I didn't expect to win, I just went and did what I love the most. A lot of people think Margarita is the easiest to make, but it's one of the hardest pizzas." says the cook.

Francesco promised not to increase the prices of his pizzas, which are offered at an average of 19 dollars, because he believes that his award will bring additional advertising to the restaurant and thus win new customers.

The Australian says that Margarita is the pizza that is the most difficult to prepare, because if the disadvantages of other types of pizza can be covered with spices, then Margarita is impossible.

That is why during the culinary session it is allowed to put on the dough only small peeled tomatoes, mozzarella, garlic, olive oil, salt and fresh basil.

The standard for Margarita pizza was to be no smaller than 35 centimeters, to have raised edges of 2 centimeters each, and to bake in a wood-fired oven.

"If you do something wrong, it will be felt immediately," Francesco said

The chef adds that cooking time is also important when making pizza.

In March this year, Johnny Di Francesco became third in a competition in Las Vegas for the best pizza chef in the world.
