The legendary love of Russians for vodka is about to go down in history, because according to this year's study by the World Health Organization, Lithuanians drank the most alcohol in the last year.
According to WHO research, in the last 365 days, one person in the country drank 18.2 liters of hard alcohol. In second place in the ranking is Belarus, where one person drank 16.4 liters of alcohol per year.
Moldova came in third with 15.9 liters of alcohol consumption in one year, and in fourth place was the former leader in this category - Russia. For the last year, the Russians have drunk 13.9 liters of alcohol, with the greatest preference for vodka.
Only 3 years ago, Russia drank twice as much alcohol, and according to studies in the country, drinking has fallen even more, as local data show that for the last year he drank only 10 liters of alcohol per person.
In fifth place in the ranking is our northern neighbor Romania, where one person drank 13.7 liters of alcohol per year. The Czech Republic and Croatia remain in sixth and seventh place, while Bulgaria remains in eighth place.
The ranking is completed by Belgium and Ukraine, and this year the countries of Eastern Europe have led the ranking of hard alcohol consumption.
WHO research has also found that the most effective measure to limit alcohol consumption is to ban advertising in the most watched television time.
