Fruit consumption in Bulgaria fell by 19.6 percent in the last quarter of the year, according to a study by the National Statistical Institute.
The national statistics report that in the last 3 months Bulgarians have bought an average of 17.3 kilograms of fruit, which is a decrease compared to the same period last year, when we bought 19.6 kilograms of fruit.
A decrease was registered in the consumption of eggs, vegetables, bread and pasta. On the other hand, meat sales have increased, albeit slightly.
7.7 kilograms of meat were sold on the markets in Bulgaria, while last year 7.5 kilograms were sold. However, sales of meat products fell from 3.6 kilograms to 3.4 kilograms.
In the last 3 months of 2015, 22.2 kilograms of bread and pasta were bought in Bulgaria, while for the same period last year the quantity was 22.9 kilograms.
Consumption of fresh and frozen vegetables fell from 28.4 kilograms last year to 27.2 kilograms in the last quarter of this year.
Milk also has a slight decrease in consumption - from 3.6 liters to 3.4 liters. The same trend is observed for yogurt - from 6.8 kg to 6.7 kg.
Less cheese was bought. In the last quarter of 2014, 3.2 kilograms of cheese were sold, while now - 3.1 kilograms.
The oil has also reduced its consumption - from 3.2 liters to 3.1 liters. Less potatoes and sugar were bought, but there was an increase in the purchase of soft drinks.
According to the data, Bulgarians give the largest part of their salary for food. Next are housing costs such as paying bills for water, electricity, heating and repairs. In third place are the costs of transport, and in fourth place - for alcohol and cigarettes.
