In the last few years, Bulgarians have been consuming fish less and less, according to a study by the Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture in the country.
From the beginning of the current 2015 to the end of November, the consumption of trout in our country has dropped by 3,304,000 kilograms compared to the same period in 2014. Then the Bulgarians ate 8,569,000 kilograms of this type of fish.
For the period January-November 2015, the consumption of mussels was 1,359,000 kilograms, while last year 4,027,000 kilograms were consumed.
This year, the catch of fish in our country has decreased dramatically. From 1 January to 30 November, the fish caught in the Black Sea was 8,045,000 kilograms, and during this period last year the catch was 8,398,000 kilograms.
Only sprats increase in catch. From 2,238,000 in 2014, the catch has risen to 3,095,000 kilograms this year. The horse mackerel decreased from 104,076 kilograms to 79,480 kilograms.
Fewer ducks were caught in 2015 - 41,509 kilograms, compared to 2014, when they were 58,814 kilograms. Catches of turbot fell from 43,200 kilograms to 28,973 kilograms.
According to the data of the National Statistical Institute in 2014 for the entire calendar period a Bulgarian in our country ate an average of 5.4 kilograms of fish. This is a decrease of 14% compared to 2013 figures.
In the past 11 months, 190 dams, 80 rivers and the Black Sea have been inspected for illegal fishing. A total of 7,530 kilograms of fish were seized, of which 2,470 kilograms were donated to social shelters and temples, 81 kilograms were destroyed, and the rest was returned to the water.
