The big campaign for buying cherries in Kyustendil has already started, with 151 points found for this purpose, and a kilo of cherries is offered for 60 stotinki.

According to the producers, the price is too low and cannot compensate their investments for this year's cherry harvest.

This year the cherry orchards in Kyustendil were strictly guarded, so there were no thefts in the massifs.

20 uniformed officers also guarded the fruit harvest, and the gendarmerie also used special night-vision devices.

The cherry campaign is still guarded by the police this year and despite the official start of the large purchase of cherries, the price of the fruit in the domestic markets remains high.

Vendors say the cold weather this year has not attracted enough customers as in previous years.

The announced price of 60 stotinki per kilogram is low, according to the producers, who shared their worries that this year they will not be able to return the invested investments.

On average, a cherry grower has invested nearly BGN 300 in 50 decares of gardens.

The farmers do not hide that this year's harvest is of poorer quality due to the heavy rains that fell in the spring.

The early varieties reach 600 kg this year, and the late varieties will be harvested at the end of June.

There is great interest from traders from abroad, who buy large quantities of cherries at prices around 2.20 levs per kilogram.

Traders from Russia and Norway show a particularly strong interest in our cherries, as both countries are ready to even bargain for Bulgarian products.

On the Bulgarian markets the better quality cherries are sold between 2 and 3.50 levs per kilogram, on some metropolitan markets a kilogram of cherries reaches the record 6 levs.

According to many producers and sellers, the price of Bulgarian cherries will start falling next week.

The purchase campaign in Kyustendil will last until June 20, and all 151 points will operate, offering cherries in bulk.
