Not so often used and relatively unpopular in our country, the turkey is considered rather atypical for the Bulgarian table meat. We usually associate it with an American cuisine dish and especially for Thanksgiving.

As the appetizing turkey meat is less often present on the table in our native kitchen, many do not even know exactly how to cook it and how to taste it. There are several basic ways to cook a delicious turkey that melts in your mouth. The main part of this, however, is the correct taste of turkey.

Marinate the meat in advance

The seasoning starts even before you start cooking it. Prepare the marinade with one of the following components - wine (preferably white with an unobtrusive taste), brandy, mayonnaise and mustard, balsamic vinegar, olive oil with lemon and spices. If you like contrasting combinations of flavors, you can add a teaspoon of honey to the marinade. Allow the meat to soak in the marinade for at least 4-5 hours or even longer. The longer you stay, the better results you will have. In addition to giving the meat an incredible flavor, the marinade will make it tender, soft and juicy - qualities that are generally lacking in dry and tough turkey meat.

Turkey spices

Although the choice of spices for turkey mostly depends on personal preferences, however there are a set of options that are typical for this meat. You can use the favorite of many black pepper, but if you have on hand - colored pepper - you will get a more exotic and rich aroma. Thyme, bay leaf, nutmeg, as well as rosemary with a rich aroma and characteristic taste are also great choices. An interesting taste is given by a not very popular spice in our country - sage, also called sage.

Ginger and turkey

If you have never tried ginger before, try its taste first before tasting the meat, because it is very characteristic and specifically spicy. But if you are a fan of ginger and like it in different combinations, feel free to add it to your appetizing turkey. You can grate the root or cut it into small pieces, fry it briefly or add it to the marinade. Let's not forget that besides being extremely fragrant, ginger is very useful!

Traditional garlic and turkey

Garlic always gives an appetizing note and spiciness to the dish. This also applies to turkey meat. You can easily taste it with garlic or onion, as long as you like them and your stomach doesn't mind either.

Borrowed from the Americans

As is well known, in America, Thanksgiving turkey is made with chestnuts. You have probably never tried the combination of turkey meat with chestnuts. That's why it's worth trying this taste. Chestnuts are slightly sweet and the combination will surprise you.
