Turkey is a country where we want to make not just a culinary journey, but rather a real culinary odyssey. Because a short trip will not be enough to try all the specialties of Turkish cuisine.

The first thing that comes to mind when we hear Turkish cuisine, is a golden, juicy, syruped Turkish baklava. There is no one who has not tried and not been fascinated by the delicious Turkish pastries.

Connoisseurs describe Turkish cuisine as sumptuous, extravagant and very diverse in terms of products. In this respect, modern Turkish cuisine is slightly different from that of the past.

The dishes offered today in restaurants in Turkey are almost no different from those that were prepared 100 years ago, because the culinary experiments in our southern neighbor are not looked upon favorably.

That is why lamb in Turkish is just as tasty today as it was in the time of Sultan Hyunkyar, who one night woke up very hungry and made his cook serve him something special.

The result of the sultan's whim today is known as Hyunkyar Beendi, which translates as Hyunkyar likes it, and we know it as Turkish lamb with eggplant and milk sauce.

The historical connection between the countries of the Balkan Peninsula is felt with full force in the cuisine. Typical for both Bulgarian and Turkish cuisine are dishes with chicken, dishes with eggplant and more.

So you should not be surprised when the restaurant offers you eggs in Turkish, lentils in Turkish, Turkish moussaka or Turkish skewers.

We will not forget to mention the famous Turkish pretzels and Turkish snacks, which, we admit with all our hearts, we like terribly.

Within the vast Ottoman Empire, there was a great variety of peoples and ethnicities, each of which contributed to the varied and delicious dishes present in the modern oven.

Of course, one of the places of honor in our culinary tour of Turkey will be assigned to the famous Turkish kebab, for which there are thousands of recipes. There are many recipes for the world-famous Turkish sarma, from which we can eat an indecent amount.

Meatball recipes are also revered in Turkey, and you can find recipes for Turkish meatballs that will surprise you with both products and the combination between them.

Of course, Turkish cuisine also differs from the region you visit. Around Istanbul and Izmir, it is closest to the European one, while in the Asian part the more spicy dishes predominate.

We will not dwell in detail on Turkish bread and Turkish rice, also known as pilaf, because we will not have time to mention all their varieties.

We will not forget to mention the sour Turkish soup, which you can order in countless traps on every shopping street in major cities.

But what really arouses the imagination of gourmets are Turkish sweets, in particular Turkish biscuits, Turkish desserts and Turkish tulumbichki, which make us dream of having not one, but 10 bellies to try them all.

Eggplants in Turkish can be a good reason to bet this summer on vacation in our southern neighbor, where the day begins with a Turkish burek, continues with Turkish salads and ends with a fragrant mantle and a cup of amazing Turkish tea.
