Eighteen people ate meat from a cow that had fallen ill anthrax, reported by the Ministry of Health in connection with the case of a man who died of anthrax from the village of Mlada Gvardia, Varna region. The patient's examinations were confirmed by the National Laboratory and the disease was definitely proven.
After the cattle showed signs of illness, they were slaughtered on July 7, with the deceased man and three other people involved in the slaughter and dismemberment of the body.
The cow was skinned by the victim and the meat was cut into four parts. During the slaughter, the man was injured, but still did not immediately seek help from a specialist.
The carcass meat was bought by a resident of the village of Bozveliysko and taken to the village by a personal minibus. In the same settlement, the dangerous meat passed through the hands of three other people. The bones of the sick cow were dumped in an unregulated dump, located near the village of Bozveliysko.
Later, the sliced meat was taken to a slaughterhouse in Asparuhovo, Varna, where it was made into sausages and distributed among the participants. However, this information is not confirmed by the owner of the cutting plant concerned.
After the epidemiological study, the experts came to several important facts. It turns out that three people ate the liver and kidneys of the dangerous cow.
Fifteen people ate sausages, also made with the meat of a sick cow. According to initial information, the skin of the same cattle was bought by a resident of Karnobat. But he denies that this is so.
The Ministry of Health added that all persons who had contact with the meat were prescribed antibiotics. The GPs of the same persons also received additional instructions. Interestingly, however, those prescribed antibiotic prophylaxis showed strong resistance to medication.
Civil protection disinfected the illegal dumps in the villages of Mlada Gvardiya and Bozveliysko. The condition of the soil from the barn, where the cattle are kept, and from the surroundings of the village of Mlada Gvardia is also analyzed, DnevnikBg reports.
At this stage it is forbidden to take the herds out of the village of Mlada Gvardia. The measure will be in force until the cattle are immunized against anthrax. At the moment there is no information about other animals affected by the disease in the village.
