Ostrich breeders from the country are about to give up this activity. The reason for their decision is both the lack of subsidies for ostrich breeders and the negligible interest in ostrich meat and eggs. Farmers from the Rhodopes hoped to earn something during the upcoming Easter holidays, but their expectations were in vain.
The demand for ostriches is almost zero, the interest is just amateur, said for dariknews the farmer Dimitar Chatalbashev, who is also the first ostrich breeder in Southern Bulgaria.
In the past, he had hundreds of animals on his farm, and now he has only eight of them left. That is why he focused on breeding cows.
According to the ostrich breeder, at this stage they were looking for him to find ostriches for our northern neighbor Romania. At least at the moment they are giving subsidies for the birds there. Unfortunately, the required number of large birds could not be found, as the other ostrich farms also had declining functions.
We remind you that years ago ostrich eggs were a big hit in our country because of their incredible nutritional properties. About ten omelets can be made from one egg, and the amount of cholesterol in them is minimal.
Ostrich eggs are a valuable source of vitamins, polyunsaturated fatty acids and trace elements, and can be safely eaten by both adults and children. The shell of the product is so strong that it makes it suitable for use even after 6 months in the refrigerator.
Ostrich meat itself is no less valuable than meat. For a long time it was known as the flesh of the future and rightly so. This type of food is rich in protein. In fact, this is a huge advantage over pork and beef, for example.
It is a source of many prices for our body substances, including potassium, phosphorus, zinc, iron, calcium. It is a source of B vitamins. Especially suitable for the diet of patients suffering from diabetes, anemia and people with high blood pressure.
