For some time now, everyone in Bulgaria has been wondering if we eat lower quality food than Western Europeans. The answer, as promised, came in June.
The Minister of Agriculture Rumen Porojanov was hired to answer the dilemma on national air. He answered in the negative to his question. However, there are differences.
In some of the studied products there are differences in the content of the label in our country and that in other countries. An example is chocolate, in which the percentage of cocoa is lower. In other products, sugar is replaced with fructose. There are also differences in the physico-chemical composition of the product itself in terms of what is announced.
Differences are not common, but even when they are, they are not unhealthy foods. To date, a total of 31 products have been seized from large chains in Bulgaria, Germany and Austria. These include chocolate products, dairy and meat products, soft drinks and juices and baby food.
The exported data are the result of the first analysis, which includes a comparative evaluation of the information on the labels. There are two more that will follow the type and density of the products, as well as their physico-chemical analysis, ie. - the content.
Whatever the results, the authorities in our country are of the opinion that it is high time for all member states to turn to the Consumer Protection Commission at the EU level in terms of having the same standards of products available on the market..
