As the biggest problem in the discrepancy between foods of the same brand, sold in Bulgaria and in Western Europe, the Minister of Agriculture Rumen Porojanov pointed out the big difference in prices. It turns out that the Bulgarian consumer is disadvantaged in quality, but also pays more than Western Europeans.

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has conducted its comparative analyzes with 31 food products, and for 16 of them in our country we pay higher prices than Germany and Austria.

The news was announced by the Minister of Agriculture after a meeting of the Council of Ministers, which discussed the data collected by BFSA experts. However, it is still not said which are the brands and manufacturers that harm the Bulgarians in terms of quality and price.

The largest difference in values was found in baby purees. Their price in Bulgaria is twice as high as in Germany and Austria, and their quality in our country is lower.

In the case of dairy and chocolate products, there is also a serious difference in price between 20 and 70%. For this reason, tomorrow, June 29, Porojanov organized a meeting with the Consumer Protection Commission.

Differences in the quality of the products were found through physico-chemical analysis, and in some cases the discrepancies are defined as poor quality, but for 7 types of food there are significant differences in composition.

Porojanov promised that on July 17-18, the topic of food standards will be presented to the European Council, hosted by Slovakia.

By the end of the summer, the countries of Eastern Europe must come up with a common position to present to the European Commission. The aim is to draw up a food standard without neglecting some countries in the European Union.
