Two companies will be fined by the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) for selling imported beans on the market, the packaging of which misleads consumers that it is domestically produced.
The companies in question have packaged the imported cereals in packages whose names mislead potential customers that it is in fact produced from certain geographical areas in Bulgaria.
The misleading inscriptions are placed on the front of the packaging, while the country of origin, in this case Egypt and China, is written in small letters on the back.
The experts of the Consumer Protection Commission have imposed a ban on the two infringing companies to apply the misleading practice in the future.
The sanction provided for in the law for such a violation can reach up to BGN 30,000.
The quantities of imported beans found in the warehouses of the importing companies will be repackaged in labels that do not risk misleading consumers.
The Commission warns people to pay attention to what they buy and to read the labels on the packaging carefully, because it is possible that there are more beans in question in the store network.
Insufficient domestic production is a prerequisite for increased imports of fruits, vegetables and cereals in our country.
Increasingly, we have beans from China, Egypt and Kyrgyzstan, lentils from Russia and potatoes from Germany and Poland.
In recent years, there has been a strengthening trend for imports of vegetables and fruits from Western European countries, Asia and Africa.
