The problem with counterfeit dairy products on the Bulgarian markets continues to exist, and the last inspection of the BFSA found 3 brands of cheese and 2 brands of yellow cheese that are not made from milk.
A total of 169 samples of cheese, yellow cheese, butter and yogurt from different manufacturers were taken. It turned out that the replacement of milk fat with non-milk is a practice for some producers.
In laboratory conditions it was found that for 5 brands - 3 for cheese and 2 for yellow cheese, the content of non-milk fat is higher than described on the label and allowed in the regulation.
For the discrepancies found, measures have been taken to withdraw these foods from the market and to design them as imitation products that do not contain milk. The violators were drawn up and served with acts for establishing an administrative violation.
Inspections of dairy products will continue in the coming weeks, and physico-chemical analyzes are planned to monitor additional indicators.
At the initiative of the Food Control Directorate of the BFSA, the inspection of dairy products and us will become regular.
The aim is to establish whether the requirements of the Ordinance on the specific requirements for dairy products are observed and whether non-dairy fats are not used in them, the BFSA announced.
