A chicken slaughterhouse near Varna was closed by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency. The site stored tons of chicken meat and cuts without being registered in accordance with the Food Act in our country.

The inspection found 3 tons of food and raw materials without labels and documents of origin. Among them are 150 kilograms of chicken wings, 215 kilograms of flavored chicken and 2280 kilograms of frozen chicken pieces.

The inspection was carried out jointly between the Sofia Directorate of the BFSA and the Regional Directorate in Varna.

The illegal meat was found in cans, buckets, cassettes and cartons. Along with the chicken, the cutting house also stored 230 kilograms of potatoes, 6 kilograms of roasted pepper and 260 kilograms of pepper paste.

One of the workers was at the site during the inspection. He did not have the obligatory health card, work clothes. He also did not present an employment contract to the inspectors.

During the inspection, another 1 ton of chilled chickens was delivered to the cutting room for consumption. They were transported by a regulated supplier with accompanying labels and the necessary commercial documents.

For the time being, the seized products will be stored in a refrigerator, and those that are edible will be donated to social institutions in Varna and the region.

The remaining food will be diverted for destruction.

The owner will be issued an Act for establishing an administrative violation according to the Food Act, which provides for a sanction of BGN 5,000.

Earlier this month, nearly 90kg of pork was confiscated in Plovdiv again during a BFSA inspection. According to the inspectors, the meat did not have any documents of origin.

The largest quantity was seized from the market in Stamboliyski. Illegal sausages were also found on Thursday market in Plovdiv.
