28 people were admitted to the emergency center of the town of Karlovo with symptoms of food poisoning after consuming boiled corn sold to a street vendor.
Among the accepted symptoms of food poisoning are 4 children from 2 to 11 years. Four girls aged 2, 7, 10 and 11 and a young woman aged 21 were the first to be admitted to the hospital.
The condition of the patients is already stable. They were admitted to the hospital with abdominal pain, vomiting and nausea.
The poisoned are of Roma origin and live in the Roma neighborhood of the village of Rozino, where the water is very polluted, so it is still not entirely certain that the Roma were poisoned by corn and not by the drinking water in their neighborhood.
However, the Roma are convinced that they were poisoned with corn, as the 28 people consumed the product sold on the street in the village.
Yesterday, a total of 50 people arrived at the Karlovo hospital to buy boiled corn from a trader in Rosino, but only 28 of them were hospitalized.
The Plovdiv directorate of the Food Agency clarified that the street trader with corn was found and the entire amount of cooked product was seized.
Police also seized samples of the liquid in which the corn was cooked, as well as samples of ice cream sold by the same trader. He was not registered as a trader with the BFSA, from where the case is to be officially investigated.
Dr. Monika Troyancheva from RHI-Plovdiv states that patients are recovering and there is no danger to their health and life.
According to Dr. Troyancheva, the hospitalized yesterday will soon be discharged from the medical institution in Karlovo.
Yesterday, five people were admitted to the hospital with symptoms of food poisoning, and by the end of the day there were 28 victims of boiled corn.
Of all those examined, four girls and a woman were admitted in the worst condition, who were admitted to the infectious ward of the health facility in the sub-Balkan town.
Experts warn to be careful with the goods we buy from the street, especially during the summer months, when the products spoil much faster.
