Todorovden is one of the brightest Christian holidays in memory of St. the great martyr Theodore Tyrone.
This holiday is also known as Horse Easter - horse, because then kushii are organized, and horses are festively dressed with tassels, and Easter, because the holiday is mobile and is celebrated during the first week of Lent. This year Todorovden falls on March 20.
On St. Todor's Day, all namesakes welcome their guests for health and treat them appropriately. As the table on St. Todor's Day as a rule it should be only from lean dishes, in the following lines we decided to present you our suggestions. So that you don't wonder at the last minute what exactly to prepare.
Soups and broths
In each kitchen cupboard or closet there is a package of beans or lentils, namely they are among the most common soups for St. Todor's Day. We emphasize again that there can be nothing meat in them, but we still follow the old customs. Vegetables such as onions, carrots, garlic, mint and savory go well with both soups.
You can also add a little tomato, but it is certainly better to use canned tomatoes this season, rather than those that are sold fresh in stores and often taste like plastic.
Other lean soups that you can prepare are mushroom soup, sauerkraut soup, onion soup, garlic soup or greens soup such as spinach, dock, sorrel and others (if already available as seasonal).
Salads
Given the fact that St. Todor's Day is usually celebrated either in February or March, we can not advise you to prepare fresh salads. But you can offer different pickles, sauerkraut or roasted peppers. The latter - again, if you have frozen or canned.
Main dishes
Aside from the fact that the main dishes must be lean again, there are no restrictions in front of you. Take it easy in the kitchen. You can prepare lean sarma with rice or stuffed peppers with potatoes and leeks or beans.
Meatballs of fresh greens or potatoes are a favorite of both young and old. Casserole sauerkraut with or without rice, potato stew or green bean stew are also good options.
The pie and / or bread, as well as the cooked wheat are obligatory for the table on St. Todor's Day. No matter how hard you try to prepare the table for St. Todor's Day, if you do not serve bread, pie or wheat on the table, your efforts would be in vain.
