It is forbidden to prepare and serve fried foods, cakes, candies and waffles for children in kindergartens and preschools. This is one of the changes entered in the Ordinance on the healthy nutrition of children between the ages of 3 and 7, which has already been uploaded on the website of the Ministry of Health for public discussion.

Other changes included in the Ordinance provide for the consumption of at least three different types of fruits and vegetables. There can be no added sugar or sweetener in the fruit salad, which is served to children. Only cream is allowed. In addition, children should be served smoothie (nectar) at least twice a week.

The requirements for canned vegetables, which will be used for preparing children's meals in the winter, have also been changed. They must not contain preservatives, stabilizers or colorants. This rule also applies to jams, marmalades and jellies. The new Ordinance provides for the inclusion of a new range - sweetened chestnut puree.

From now on the daily menu of each kindergarten it must include at least 350 g of yoghurt or milk, which may be added to the ingredients of other foods or taken in direct consumption. Milk can only be cow's milk. Its fat content should be between 3% and 3.6%, and two days a week the menu includes yogurt with 2% fat or fresh milk with 1.5% fat.

Every day the children should be served at least 35 g of cheese with a salt content of up to 3.5% or yellow cheese with a salt content of up to 3%. The kefir that the children used to drink with salt will now be offered without salt.

So far, the rules for healthy eating in kindergartens allowed the reception of fried foods, cakes, pastes, pastries, waffles, candies and sweetened milks with fruit flavors. But in the new Ordinance, fried foods and sweets are prohibited. Children will be served fruit milks if they contain cocoa, oatmeal, honey or extra quality jam.

The new Ordinance also provides for changes in the selection and processing of meat. From now on, chicken should be served to skinless children, and beef and pork should be free of fat, tendons and bones. The meat must not have been processed in any way other than chilled. The minced meat that will be offered must also not be greasy, it will not be allowed to serve minced meat, kebabs and meatballs.
