/ undefined Avocado instead of a mullet for breakfast and a healthy smoothie instead of boza will be waiting for the kids in kindergartens. Starting this fall, the menus will change radically and junk food will be eliminated.

Fried foods, sausages, desserts with high amounts of sugar, foods with high amounts of salt and pasta are also falling.

In their place will be more dishes with quinoa, buckwheat, chia, flaxseed, sesame, avocado, mango, dates, blueberries, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, arugula, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, sweet potatoes and cheese.

The new rules for healthy eating were adopted by the Ministry of Health earlier this year. Studies show that our nation is obese, and the problem has reached even the youngest.

The foods offered for breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks in kindergartens are far from the norms for healthy eating.

On the recommendation of the Health Directorate of the European Commission, major changes had to be made in the menu of Bulgarian children, as the main criteria for nutrition is health, not price, as it was before.

Obesity is becoming an increasing problem and in order to reduce the consequences, Bulgarians need to part with some eating traditions and talk to their children about what is healthy and what is not, nutritionist Ognyan Simeonov told Nova TV.
