In the times we live in, we can less and less often find in the markets products that do not contain preservatives or other obscure additives. However, GMO foods are especially dangerous because there is no way to recognize them. In Bulgaria, no one obliges producers of GMO foods to put on the labels of their products that they are genetically modified. At the same time, opponents of this type of food are increasing day by day.
And this is not strange at all. It is a public secret that experts have found a direct link between the consumption of GMO foods and cancer. Of course, there is no official evidence of this, but it is known for sure that this type of food leads to an increased risk of allergies and a weakened immune system. And that's enough to startle you.
You don't want to take potatoes or tomatoes that have been injected with mouse DNA, for example. But you just have no way of knowing if this is the case or not.
And worst of all, this type of production is increasing. Until now, it was known that a large part of potatoes, corn, soy, tomatoes, zucchini, etc. are GMO products. But it turns out that the melons stand next to them. Consumption of this favorite fruit for Bulgarians now also poses risks.
It turns out that for a richer harvest and faster ripening, genetic engineers have also taken a look at melons. It will be difficult to recognize whether the melon you are taking is a GMO product. But it will certainly look immature, and in just a few hours it will look ready to eat. This is exactly the idea. It can be driven from the watermelon so that it is not injured during transport, but only a moment after it has reached the end user, it is juicy and soft.
Unfortunately, the risks behind the consumption of GMO melons are the same as those behind the consumption of all other GMO foods. Almost all the research done so far shows that when a foreign gene enters the human body with food, it cannot be incorporated into its genome and will only cause a mutation in the cells.
And accordingly will expose you to an increased risk of cancer. So, if you have the opportunity, enjoy melons only if you really know where they come from and whether they are an environmentally friendly fruit.
