Arugula is a plant that is extremely easy and unpretentious to grow. To enjoy the delicious leaves of the plant in good conditions, it takes about four weeks from planting.
Arugula is grown at the same time as spinach and lettuce. The best time for planting is early spring in April-May, when the weather has not yet become too hot. Arugula likes cooler weather with temperatures up to about 25 degrees.
The place for planting in the yard should be more shady, because it needs no more than 4-5 hours of sun a day. Otherwise it shoots quickly and the leaves become more bitter. The other important thing for the good development of vegetables is that the soil is high in moisture, which is why it needs to be watered abundantly.
If you want to get arugula for your own needs, for variety to other salads or just to try, it is best to plant it in several pots. This will allow you to move them so that they are not exposed to excessive sunlight.
In the case of arugula, the vegetation period is short. Therefore, it can be grown all year round. This plant can be planted in stages - over a period of 10 - 15 days, in individual beds. In this way you can enjoy this delicious and extremely healthy vegetable almost all year round.
In the spring the seeds are sown in the first ten days of April, and in the autumn - sowing is done in the first ten days of September. To do this, choose a suitable place in your garden where the sun does not shine all day if possible.
The seeds are planted in rows at a distance of 20-30 cm from each other. Place evenly and cover with 1 cm of soil. It is good then to water the soil abundantly.
The first petals of the plant appear within the next 7 to 14 days. During and after the period, the soil must be kept constantly moist.
The most delicious, tender and fragrant are the leaves of arugula after about 35-40 days from planting the seeds. They should be about 7-8 cm long. After this period, they become tougher and with a more intense spicy taste.
