A banned antifungal drug was found in 5 brands of oil on our market during the last inspection of Active Users. During this inspection, violations were also found, such as the replacement of milk fats with vegetable and increased water content.

The study included 10 trademarks, and in 3 of the brands the unregulated amount of non-milk fats was between 40 and 60% of the total fat content.

The violation found, in addition to being a commercial fraud, leads to a significant deterioration in the quality of the food. The use of non-dairy, most likely hydrogenated vegetable fats increases the risk of cardiovascular disease.

However, the big problem is the use of the antibacterial drug natamycin (E235), which is deliberately used by manufacturers to extend the shelf life of products.

The amounts of natamycin found vary between 8 and 32 grams for a small packet of 125 grams of oil.

The Active Consumers Association also points out that producers have become more inventive in using technologies to counterfeit butter.

Instead of mass retail chains, which are easily accessible and where there is already a cautious response, they market imitation products through wholesalers. Thus, they end up mainly in hotels, kindergartens and schools, hospitals, ie. are offered to the most vulnerable part of the population.

During the last action of Active Consumers, samples from the large retail chains in Sofia were detected, and this time the samples were purchased from stores selling wholesale goods in Burgas and Nessebar.
