An inspection of the origin and quality of the fish offered on the US fish markets showed that 40% of the production had been falsified. For some fish species, such as tuna, the replacement of species with cheaper ersatz substitutes has reached 90% of the quantities studied.
Mass inspections of major European fish markets are expected to make similar revelations. The results of the DNA samples taken during the inspections at the end of March 2013 are still pending.

In some places in the land of the rising sun, seawater often becomes an arena for mass bloody dolphin fishing. Their meat is sold and illegally marketed, packaged as shark meat, the real price of which is much more expensive.
Fish poachers often allow themselves to be caught in waters that are prohibited for commercial fishing due to the established contamination of the water with salts of heavy metals, radionuclides and other toxic pollutants. The fish caught in this way does not go through a mandatory veterinary inspection, which means that it can be contaminated with various microbes and bacteria, such as salmonella, worm eggs and various parasites.
