On the occasion of the Christian holiday St. Nicholas Day, the laity who visited the monastery complex of St. John the Forerunner in Kardzhali received a very large portion of fish.

A total of 160 kilograms of fish were distributed at the festive liturgy, including the traditional carp, silver carp, white fish and mackerel.

Each portion weighed 1 kilogram so that each of the believers could take the fish home.

For the holiday, Father Marin from the church in Rezbartsi and Father Karamfil from the church in Momchilovgrad celebrated a liturgy with which they blessed the distributed fish.

Before the portions were given to the people, each of them was illuminated.

It is a tradition to distribute fish on St. Nicholas Day in St. John the Forerunner in the "Veselchane" neighborhood, and this year is the third.

The previous 2 years the fish was bought with personal funds of the priest in the temple - Father Nikolai, and this year it was received by donors who wished to remain anonymous.

Last year, Father Nikolai had bought 100 kilograms of fish, which he distributed for the holiday.

The clergyman said that he had taken such an initiative, not only because he is a namesake of today, but also because the Christian tradition dictates so.

For today's holiday, street vendors offered a wide variety of fish, and the prices were not much different from last year's.

The cheapest is the rattlesnake - BGN 1.50 per kilogram, and the most expensive fish is the sea bass, which is sold from BGN 13 to BGN 14.20 per kilogram.

The price of the traditional carp is between 5 and 5.50 leva per kilogram.

The silver carp reaches 3 levs per kilogram, the pike - 7 levs per kilogram, and the catfish - 10 levs per kilogram.

On the street, for the convenience of the hosts, traders also offer cleaned fish, ready to cook.

For such trout, the hosts, who do not want to process it themselves, pay BGN 9.50 each.

The Regional Directorate for Food Safety and the Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture are massively inspecting the sites that offer fish.

In case of established violation, the fines for traders will range from BGN 100 to BGN 500.
