The etiquette of the table is very important, and when a plate with something with a shell is placed on the table, its observance becomes almost impossible. Over the centuries, table behavior and requirements have increased tremendously.

The idea of rules during meals first appears in a 1530 work by Erasmus called "On the Civilization of Children." In it, the author explained the basic rules of eating and what should not be done on the table (such as the rule that once chewed, food should not be spat back into the plate).

If you don't know how to do it or you feel like you're not doing it right because of the astonished looks of others, don't worry. Here you will find tips on how to enjoy the delicate and special taste of shrimp.

How to eat shrimp

Shrimp are eaten with your hands or with a seafood fork, with three teeth and a short handle - depending on the method of serving. Fried shrimp are eaten with a knife and fork, and if their tails are not removed, you can eat them with your fingers. If you have been served shrimp on sticks, then they are melted in a sauce and eaten from the stick.

Different countries have different labels regarding the consumption of seafood, especially shrimp.

In general, Asians consume them mainly with their hands, and you can often see some people just sucking the heads of steamed shrimp. The fried ones are eaten whole, removing only the tails.

In Thailand, for example, as in many other Asian countries, they are placed in the shrimp soup completely uncleaned. To eat them, you need to dip in the hot soup and suck while the broth runs down your chin. For Asians, this is perfectly normal and even shows that you appreciate the dish served to you properly.
