Raw chicken should not be washed before cooking. This is the opinion reached by experts after research in the United States. According to him, washing chicken in its raw state increases the risk of diseases and infections transmitted through food.
Most people probably think that washing removes bacteria and makes meat safer and cleaner to eat. To some extent, this could be considered true. However, some microbes are so firmly attached, there is no way to remove them and the only thing you can do is spread them all over the meat.
Raw chicken almost always contains bacteria that cause diarrhea, fever or stomach pain and discomfort. Washing it with water, holding it with your hands and even leaking its own juices can increase the risk of spreading the bacteria. To reduce this possibility, cook without first washing the meat.
Some people might ask if there is an antibacterial agent - white vinegar or lemon juice, with which we can treat the meat before putting it in the pot.
According to experts, although antibacterial, these products work on the principle of water - we use them for to wash the chicken with them and accordingly hide the same risk.
Use gloves while touching and transporting the meat from the package in which you purchased it to the container in which you will cook it. If you decide to roast the meat, it is good to do it at 180-200 degrees, because this is a temperature that kills bacteria. You will find out if the temperatures are high enough and if the meat is as hot as it should be, best if you use a food thermometer.
Here are some tips to keep your kitchen clean and prevent the spread of bacteria:
- Use separate boards for cutting vegetables and meat;
- Wash your hands often when handling meat, even if you use gloves;
- Check the temperature of the meat to make sure it has reached the correct degrees;
- Store meat on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator to avoid leakage of juices on fresh food;
- Keep cold food on ice and hot food in suitable containers or storage utensils, such as special thermal plates, foil or something else.
