Cuba is a country whose name is invariably associated with the name of the late Fidel Castro, cigars wrapped around the thighs of beautiful women, and stormy alcohol nights. No less famous, however, is the Cuban cuisine, which is saturated with strange aromas and spices.

Along with traditionally used products such as corn, rice, potatoes, fish, beef and chicken, in Cuban cuisine you can find dishes prepared with horse meat, duke, beans and more. In this case, we have decided to offer you an easy idea for cooking fish according to an original Cuban recipe with spices that you can easily find on the Bulgarian market:

Necessary products: 500 g white fish fillet (hake, hake, pangasius, etc.), 3 tbsp. olive oil, the juice of 1/2 lemon, 1 bay leaf, 3 tbsp. soy sauce, 80 g nuts of choice, 2 onions, red, black pepper, salt and thyme to taste

Method of preparation: The fish fillet is washed and allowed to drain. It is even best to dry it with kitchen paper or a plain towel so that you are sure that it will not contain too much water.

Sprinkle the fillet with salt and lemon juice and leave to marinate for about 30 minutes. When salting, remember that the recipe also includes soy sauce, which is also salty.

In a pan pour 2 tbsp. olive oil and fry for a short time the crushed nuts. It is best to use a mixture of almonds and hazelnuts, but ordinary walnuts do a good job. Then add finely chopped onion (only one head) and when it is ready, pour the soy sauce.

Reduce the heat and let all the products simmer for a few minutes. Set the pan aside. Cut the fish fillet into strips and grease the bottom of the baking tray with the remaining olive oil. Arrange the remaining onion and all the spices on the bottom, and the bay leaf should be finely chopped.

Arrange the sliced fillet on top of these herbs and pour the stewed sauce over it. Bake the fish in a preheated 180 degree oven for about 40 minutes or depending on the size of the pieces. Serve warm with potatoes or rice prepared the way you want. Both cultures are traditional for Cuba.
