An inspection of bTV showed the content of the sausages sold in our country. After the video, which shows feathers, beaks and entrails being added to sausages, more and more people are skeptical about meat products.

The labels do not describe what percentage of meat they contain sausages, but it is clear that they contain soy protein, lactose, guar gum, monosodium glutamate, sodium nitrite, modified starch.

Depending on whether they are pork or chicken, the prices vary between 5.21 and 19.93 levs per kilogram.

In the cheaper sausages the highest is the content of soy - protein, but vegetable, explains Kiril Vatev from the Association of Meat Processors.

The other E's that have been added are not a cause for paranoia, experts say. Monosodium glutamate is used for intense taste, gum guar is a type of collagen, and sodium nitrite is a preservative, which, however, in high doses can be toxic.

Some of the samples also showed that the meat was replaced by starch - potato, modified starch. This product is not prohibited for use and is safe for consumption in any quantities.

The inspection also showed that in the Stara Planina sausages there is a much lower amount of E, although sodium nitrite is again present.

None of the ingredients is dangerous to the health of the consumer. Neither one! Since the dawn of time, sodium nitrite has been used in meat processing for two purposes - color formation and preservation of the product, said Vatev.
