Pomegranate is among the most prized fruits, mostly because of its health and taste qualities. However, when we decide to eat the delicious fruit, surely each of us has faced the difficult task of removing the fruit from its peel.
Our first task when choosing a pomegranate is to make sure it is well ripened. This is due to the fact that, unlike other fruits, once picked, it does not continue to ripen, but slowly dries.
It is to protect the delicate grains that its bark is hard and tough. Inside, the fruit is divided into sectors resembling a honeycomb.
The selected pomegranate should be as fresh as possible. It must be heavy in size. This means that there is a lot of juice in the beans. Fruits with spots or scratches are also acceptable, as long as they do not have cracks or cracks in depth. The shape and color are not very important.
How to peel a pomegranate?
There are several ways to remove pomegranate peel. The most effective way at the moment is the "underwater" technique. It avoids stains and allows all the grains to gather.
A large bowl of water, a sharp knife and a colander are needed to peel a pomegranate. First, the crown is removed from the fruit, which is discarded. With the knife, make several shallow vertical incisions in the peel, similar to peeling an orange.
Pomegranate is dipped in a bowl. The bark is broken by hand through the slits, below the water level. The result is a mass of fruit, peel and whitish membrane. Use your fingers to release the grains from each piece of bark.
They will sink to the bottom while the remaining particles will float to the surface. The bark and skins are peeled from the surface. The berries are drained from the water.
The other way to peel a pomegranate is to very carefully describe a circle with a knife at the top of the fruit. Remove the lid and carefully make incisions in the bark with a knife.
The fruit dissolves slightly over a bowl or plate. The grains that crumble when dissolved fall inside. The bark is then removed very easily by hand.
