A worried mother announced that suspicious liquid candies believed to contain the drug amphetamine were being sold in the shop of the capital's 120th school.
The mother of one of the children at the school told reporters that the liquid candy popular among the students is a bottle with a spray in which there is a liquid with the smell of chewing gum.
The parent of the first-grade child at the Sofia school gave the liquid candy in question for examination at the toxicology clinic in Pirogov, as he wanted to check the ingredients in the bottle.
To everyone's surprise, the medical results showed that the drug amphetamine was among the ingredients in the liquid candy.
The parents say that after their children started using the candies, they became more nervous and restless than usual. According to them, the reason is exactly the narcotic substance.
A TV crew tried to film the shop selling the liquid candies, but journalists were not allowed into the building because the school's management was worried about damaging its image.
The principal of the 120th school, Tsvetanka Toneva, described the case as malicious gossip. According to her, the document from Pirogov is invalid, as the analysis was made in violation of the mandatory order, according to which the Ministry of Interior must first examine the suspicious product.
A new examination of the suspicious liquid candies has been appointed in the case in order to establish what exactly the bottle contains.
The analysis of the clinic in Pirogov has also proved that the candies contain six ingredients marked with E - dyes and preservatives, which violates Ordinance 37, which prohibits the sale of artificial colors and flavors in schools.
The mayor of the Lozenets region, Lyubomir Drekov, said the shop of the 120th school was regularly inspected by the Regional Health Inspectorate and the Food Agency.
He added that he would give an official statement on the case when the results of the expertise are ready.
Anxious mothers say that liquid candies can be bought from almost any school shop. Their price is about BGN 1.50 per piece.
