/ undefined One of the best things about spring and summer is undoubtedly the time spent with our loved ones on a picnic in the mountains or why not on the beach.
And if to all this idyll are added delicious grilled meat skewers, barbecue or embers, then we have all the prerequisites for an unforgettable experience.
The skewers of course they are one of our favorite temptations when it comes to grilling. The meat you will string is a matter of taste and mood - pork, lamb, chicken, fish, seafood, vegetables and fruits or a combination of them - the possibilities are inexhaustible.
However, before throwing them on the grill or barbecue, you should also think about the garnish. Because a roasted skewer without garnish is like summer without cold beer.
Although only a tasty addition to meat dishes, side dishes should be chosen according to the type, taste and aroma of the meat you will use.
But if you bake skewers on the grill at home, it will not be a problem to prepare one of the following recipes for the perfect garnish:
- potatoes (boiled, baked, fried, sauteed);
- warm garnish of legumes (peas, beans, lentils, rice, corn);
- seasonal vegetable salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, cabbage, carrots, lettuce, etc.);
- sauces and dips for garnish (lutenitsa, kyopoolu, tomato sauce, ajvar, garlic, dairy, etc.);
- canned (pickles, pickles, olives, sauerkraut, etc.);
- roasted vegetables: peppers, zucchini, eggplant, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, corn, asparagus, etc.
Of course, most skewer recipes also include vegetables, so the choice is according to your preferences.
However, if you are unsure what to choose, you can always string not only meat skewers, but also skewers with pickled vegetables. So there will be something for everyone, even after your loved ones have vegetarians.
Here is an example basic recipe (for 4 servings):
zucchini - 2 pcs.
red onion - 1 head
red peppers - 2 pcs.
green peppers - 2 pcs.
mushrooms - 200 g, small
soy sauce - 150 ml
red pepper - 1 tsp.
black pepper - 1/4 tsp.
oil or olive oil - 4 tbsp.
The vegetables are washed, cleaned and cut into pieces of equal size. The mushrooms are left whole. Leave in the pre-mixed marinade products (soy sauce, oil or olive oil, paprika and black pepper) for about 15 minutes.
The vegetables are strung on wooden ones skewers and bake for a few minutes on each side of the grill, barbecue or grill.
And don't forget the cold beer!
Bon appetit and cheers!
