Different foods spoil in a different way. Some last longer and others are shorter. In most cases the smell and type of food they tell us when it's time to throw it away.

But there are also products where it is almost impossible to understand when they are edible and when their expiration date has expired. So we decided to show you a few such products and draw your attention to the signs that show that they are no longer suitable.

Butter

You may think the opposite, but the oil also has an expiration date. If you keep it out of the refrigerator, you should use it for up to 2 weeks. After this period, it is necessary to discard it, because the light and heat to which it was exposed during this time have accelerated the growth of bacteria. And if you keep it in the refrigerator, its shelf life is 4 weeks.

Cow milk

You can check if the milk is spoiled in two ways. The first is when you smell it - when the milk is spoiled, it has a disgusting smell. The second way is to see if it is crossed, ie. stands in layers, if so, you have to throw it away.

Non-animal milk

These are soy, almond, coconut and other alternative milks. You may not believe it, but they also break down. Unlike animal milk, however, layering here does not mean that the milk is spoiled. It is enough to shake it and it is edible again. However, it is advisable not to use it after the tenth day after cooking, as bacteria grow in it.

Peanut butter

To our delight, peanut butter has a long shelf life. It can be used months after opening the jar, even if it is left outside the refrigerator. The reason for this is the high content of fats and oils contained in peanut oil. They prevent most of the bacteria from growing and multiplying in it.

But it can go bad. This is usually caused by prolonged exposure to heat, light and bacteria. When it spoils, a layering of layers appears and its taste changes.

Rice

Rice is one of the most durable foods, which makes it so popular. It can be kept in the closet for months without any signs of spoilage. But like any other food, it can spoil. One of the most susceptible species is brown rice. When stored at room temperature it can be used for up to 6 months, when stored in a refrigerator - up to 1 year, and when frozen - up to a year and a half. If cooked it can last up to 6 days.

Red meat

The change in color is the surest sign that red meat, and not only it, is spoiled. Darkening the meat means that its quality is deteriorating and that bacteria can grow in it. If it is accompanied by an unpleasant odor, it should not be consumed even after heat treatment.

Chicken meat

The meat of different species of birds has different colors - bluish-white, pink, yellow, depending on the diet and characteristics of the bird. There are cases in which the meat of birds of the same species has a different color without being spoiled. Therefore, it is difficult to know when the meat is not fit for consumption. The surest sign of this is darkening. The appearance of different shades of the meat's own color is also a sign of its unfitness.

Fish

The fish has a specific smell, so you cannot determine its suitability by it. Fresh fish is shiny and elastic and has transparent eyes. A sign of its unfitness is the darkening of the eyes, as well as the even more unpleasant odor. You should also know that the fish cannot be refrigerated for more than 24 hours. When they run out, you have to cook or throw it away.
