Labels in green, yellow and red should be affixed to foods to warn consumers if they are high in harmful ingredients. This was announced by the Active Consumers Association.
Six global companies have announced that they are setting up a working group to develop this proposal. The practice is already popular in England and Ireland, said the chairman of the Association Bogomil Nikolov to Hello, Bulgaria.
Years ago, a proposal was made for traffic lights on food as a claim against some of the most dangerous diseases, but only now is it meeting the answer.
The idea is to put a red mark on foods that contain fat over 17.5 grams, saturated fat - over 5 grams, sugar - over 22.5 grams and salt - over 1.5 grams.
Yellow light will indicate goods that contain fat between 3 and 17.5 grams, saturated fat - from 1.5 to 5 grams, sugar - from 5 to 22.5 grams, and salt - from 0.3 to 1.5 grams.
Foods containing up to 3 grams of fat, up to 1.5 grams of saturated fat, up to 5 grams of sugar and up to 0.3 grams of salt will carry the green label.
These will be the permissible norms for one portion. According to recent research, large portions are responsible for the obesity of the population. This most likely means that they will reduce the weight of products that contain more harmful ingredients.
