In about two months, the new legislation on food labels will enter into force, and some producers are worried that they will be able to comply with European Commission requirements.
The directors of several municipal children's kitchens are in a panic because they are not sure that they will be able to comply with all the labeling requirements imposed on them by the Commission.
The kitchens comment that it will be quite difficult for them to gather all the information about the food, which from this December they will be obliged to report on the label.
The name of the product, its ingredients, the ingredients that may cause allergies, the shelf life of the product and its nutritional value must be written on the labels in normal font.
Separately, it must be clear which is the commercial enterprise that produces the goods. This will make it very difficult for children's kitchens to gather so much information on the small jars.
The Food Agency said it was ready to work out a compromise so that thousands of labels would not have to be affixed on a daily basis, but it was mandatory for parents to be informed about the quality of the food.
Most manufacturers in the country are already preparing new labels to meet the requirements of the European Commission. Labels on native foods will offer more detailed information.
From December, consumers will be aware of the nutritional value of the product they buy and whether certain ingredients in it can cause allergic reactions.
The new requirements come into force on December 13 and will put an end to the misleading information that has been written on the labels of native foods for years.
Scary E's will be called by their more popular names, and the expiration date will be placed in a prominent place so that consumers do not have to look for it in every corner of the product.
The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency will be committed to monitoring compliance with labeling rules.
