The European Parliament will discuss the proposal to put warning labels on bottles of alcohol, similar to the labels on cigarette packs.

If the proposal is accepted, bottles of alcoholic beverages in the European Union will be sold with warning messages, as will cigarettes.

Labels on bottles of alcohol will warn of the dangers of drunk driving, as well as the consequences of alcohol use during pregnancy.

The aim of the proposal is to drastically reduce alcohol-related incidents. The document, which MEPs will consider, also aims to reduce the use of alcohol by minors.

There are several companies in Bulgaria that use this practice and write on alcohol the possible negative consequences of its uncontrollable consumption.

The proposed regulation also provides for the calories and ingredients contained in the drink to be written on each bottle. The new measure should not increase the price of alcohol.

Sample signs have already been prepared for pregnant women, drivers and people under 18 years of age. Clients will also be warned about the risks of alcohol use during working hours, when taking medication and about the danger of developing addiction.

Suggestions have also been made for inscriptions on the bottles:

- Alcohol can harm your unborn child;

- Drunk drivers cause 10,000 deaths in Europe every day;

- Alcohol is addictive;

- Drinking when working with machines poses a serious risk.

Alcohol abuse causes 3.3 million deaths in accidents worldwide each year, according to the reasons for the proposed changes.

In the 20-39 age group, one in four deaths is related to alcohol use. These deaths are often the result of accidents, violence or the development of liver disease.
