In Bulgaria, fruits and vegetables are imported en masse from other countries of the European Union (and not only!) - Greece, Macedonia, Spain, etc., even from Turkey, from which as much as 80% of production is exported to Europe.
We can read less and less on the label of a product that it is made in Bulgaria, but why is that? In short, the answer is that they are cheaper than our Bulgarian production.
According to research by the Institute for Market Economics at the end of last year, for the last ten years Bulgarian production of fruits and vegetables has fallen by about 60%. If the trend continues, the Bulgarian products, which are undoubtedly the most delicious, will completely disappear from the market.
To the question “Why do we eat imported fruits instead of Bulgarian fruits and vegetables? Experts answer that in this sector in Bulgaria for many years no investments have been made.
In our country the cost of the final product is higher than the cost of the final product in other countries. In order to achieve low cost of products, it is necessary to have large associations to invest.
Only in this way will the cost of the product be competitive with those of other countries. Income taxation of individuals and sole proprietorships has very low tax relief. While large companies such as Ltd. and Ltd., have more tax relief under the Corporate Income Tax Act.
That is why large companies will have a lower cost of the final product than smaller ones. Apart from the fact that the investment does not come from one person, the benefits themselves are much greater.
If we talk about exporting in Bulgarian fruits and vegetables, can not ignore the fact that here we need quality, price and last but not least quantity. In our country the quantity is much less - when a trader comes to buy, he looks for all three factors.
Even if a product is cheaper in our country, the quantity offered is too small. We fail to meet our own needs fruits and vegetables, it will be difficult to meet the needs of countries larger than us.
As there are more sole proprietorships in Bulgaria, we cannot expect that with such we will be able to influence the mechanisms of Greece, for example, for the import of fruits and vegetables.
After all, these are short-lived products that can't wait for a better price for too long.
In addition, as an EU member state, Bulgaria has open borders for some of the largest producers in the world. We cannot restrict their importation from other countries unilaterally.
We offer apricots much less fragrant and tasty than the Bulgarian ones, and ours are exported - the state cannot regulate the prices of traders.
The trader himself decides where he will sell his products - if he can get a better price from an external buyer, he will sell. Moreover, Bulgarian buyers cannot afford to pay high prices, no matter how tasty the product is.
