For several weeks now, children's lollipops in the shape of a toilet bowl have been distributed in the trade network in the town of Vratsa.
The "sweet" temptation is offered at the salty price of BGN 2.50-2.60 per piece and quickly became one of the most bought items by the students, to the horror of their parents.
The lollipop is imported from China. The importer of the non-standard shipment is a Sofia company, which is among the largest distributors of sweet products in the region.
The delicacy is accompanied by a leaflet in several European languages, which is a sure sign that the "toilet" temptation is spreading to other countries within the European Union.
Outraged parents signaled the scandalous children's delicacy in the Regional Directorate of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA).
In fact, the toilet bowl is plastic and not edible. The real lollipop is shaped like a toilet brush and is used to "melt" in the sour sugar filling of the toilet.
The subsequent lightning inspection of the inspectors of the BFSA - Vratsa did not reveal any violations, neither by the Chinese manufacturer, nor by the importers or distributors.
As part of the product inspection, the content of flavors and colors was thoroughly investigated. Laboratory tests have confirmed that the colors, stabilizers and flavors used in the delicacy in question are approved and cannot cause allergic conditions in children who have consumed the toilet delicacy.
The tests found dextrose, sugar, corn syrup, fruit acids and stabilizers, which were duly marked on the accompanying label.
On the labels of the lollipops it is conscientiously noted that the delicacy is not suitable for children under 3 years, as they contain small particles and there is a risk of choking.
Despite the indignation of the parents, the toilet lollipop does not pose a danger to the children's health. It is just another manifestation of bad taste and clumsy sense of humor, which spreads freely in the commercial network.
