The ever-increasing search for modern man in the field of healthy, balanced and at the same time delicious food leads to incredible culinary discoveries. One of them is quinoa - this long-forgotten plant, which in the last decade has become an absolute hit in cooking.
Quinoa it can be found only in the high fields of the Andes, up to about four thousand meters above sea level. Today, the large only 3-4 mm white grains of the plant with large heart-shaped leaves are one of the most sought after products on the market of dietary and healthy foods. There are many reasons to include quinoa in your menu. Here are the three main ones:
Rich in protein
In the past, quinoa was a major source of protein for Bolivians, Peruvians, Ecuadorians and Chileans. The only domestic animals at the time, llamas and guinea pigs, carried almost no protein. In addition, quinoa contains all the essential amino acids that the human body needs.
In this way, it becomes the almost perfect substitute for meat, at least in terms of the quality of the protein content. Recommended for vegans and vegetarians. There is more calcium and it does not contain gluten - what could be better. This makes it suitable for any gluten-free recipe or for making wheat flour.
Biologically pure product
Quinoa is produced by biological methods without artificial pesticides and fertilizers. The lack of potentially dangerous substances is one of the main reasons to include the ancient plant in your menu.
Cook quickly
Quinoa cook for no more than 15-20 minutes. The main method of preparation is cooking. For this purpose, the small grains are flooded with twice as much water. Boil until transparent. Cooked quinoa is characterized by a slightly crunchy texture, earthy aroma and nutty taste.
It is a perfect substitute for both bulgur and couscous, and even rice, as long as the recipe does not indicate its mandatory presence, as in risotto, for example.
It can be added to vegetarian dishes with vegetables of your choice, as well as prepared with meat or fish. The seeds are also used to make pilaf and salads, even desserts. Some add cooked clear beans to the morning serving of muesli.
