If you are an avid fan of fruits and vegetables, but you often hear about new and unknown to you, do not be surprised - the world is full of surprises. Here we will introduce you to a fruit that, however, is more likely to be known by lovers of ornamental plants than by an amateur cook.

Monstera is a plant that grows in a humid and shady environment. It is most commonly found in the rainforests around Mexico and Colombia. The optimal temperature for its development, and for the plant to have a good harvest, is between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius.

The fruits are extremely tasty and juicy and it is believed that this is one of the reasons for naming it this way - translated from the Latin "monstrum" - "monster" or monstrously delicious. In Palermo, this fruit is known as the "Lion's Paw".

When you see it, the first association you will make is with a cob of corn, which, however, is covered with many flakes. The length of the monster is about 25 cm, and the plant itself can reach an impressive 20 m in height.

After removing the scales, you can consume its inside, which is soft and similar to porridge, which combines the flavors of banana, mango and pineapple. You can tell if a fruit is ripe if you smell an unpleasant pungent odor after removing the scales.

However, if the fruit is not ready to eat, and you have decided to try it, keep in mind that in some cases it acts as a strong allergen and you may get a severe rash or sore throat.

In addition to raw, the monster can be eaten boiled or fried, in various desserts and jellies, as well as for making flour and alcohol. It is extremely rich in vitamin C and calcium. Prolonged storage in the refrigerator is not recommended.

If you have decided to try this interesting fruit, it is best to eat it as soon as possible after buying it.
